Do you have a heart for children fighting cancer? On Sunday, October 6, hundreds of supporters from the Orlando community gathered to transform the branches of a Lake Eola tree with heart-bearing symbols of hope. In its second year, the Giving Tree event, hosted by Appleton Creative and the City of Orlando, raised donations in support of Kids Beating Cancer, whose mission is to increase access to treatment for children with cancer, leukemia and other life-threatening diseases.
The family-friendly charitable event featured interactive games and activities, face painters, and acoustic music by Skylar White. Orlando City Commissioner Patty Sheehan took part in the action and spoke during a special ceremonial presentation. In addition, Dyan Goodman of Kids Beating Cancer shared the emotional story of the organization and how it has evolved over the last 20 years.
This Giving Tree event received an outpouring of support from Orlando residents and attracted media coverage. News reporters from FOX 35 Orlando, WKMG Local 6 and WFTV Channel 9 captured footage from the event and got interviews with many of the in-kind donors.
We would like to thank the City of Orlando, Commissioner Patty Sheehan, Kids Beating Cancer, our face painters, Samantha Strickland, Eileen Strickland, and Karen Phillips, UCF’s Pi Kappa Phi as well as the entire Appleton Creative team for making this yet another successful, and special Giving Tree event.
